HK start-ups showcase latest mobile apps and innovations

Technology incubation companies of Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) will be showcasing their innovative products and solutions at the HKTDC Inno Design Tech Expo (IDT Expo).  The innovations range from digital receipts system, mobile apps for “whole-child” development and mobile workforce, to cost-effective LED lamps.

Allen Yeung, Vice President of Business Development and Technology Support of HKSTPC, is pleased with the active participation. “HKSTPC has been organising pavilions to encourage incubatees to showcase their innovations in international fairs.  Many of them find it very effective in extending their connections with potential customers, whether they are in Hong Kong or from overseas.  During the Electronics Fair held in October, one of our incubatees SinoGael Technologies Limited has successfully enticed great interests from buyers of the US and Middle East.  We are confident that our incubatees will again attract international visitors in the coming IDT Expo and gain fruitful results.”

Paperless Receipt System to Build Customer Loyalty
SinoGaels’ innovation was made out of environmental concerns. Their user-friendly “easyceipt” platform converts paper receipts into digital format.  It is compatible with any POS system. Without any software alteration, retailers can apply “easyceipt” seamlessly and their customers would get an e-receipt for any purchase via the “easyceipt” Android/iOS mobile application.

In addition, retailers can also enjoy the advantages of building customer loyalty with repeat customers, as the “easyceipt” is an ideal medium to offer purchase incentives.  “easyceipt” also integrates a sharing function with which customers can share the e-coupons via social networks (e.g. Facebook), in turn, helping retailers to promote their brand among their targeted customers.

Award-winning Education iPad app for “Whole-Child” Development
Also showcasing mobile application is Joy Aether Ltd, which will introduce an interactive iPad application, Joy Sprouts, for children aged 2 to 6, aiming to develop their talents in a holistic and amusing way.  The app has been recently listed finalist of the “Best mCommerce Solution” at the prestigious “Mob-Ex Awards 2012” by Marketing Magazine.

Built upon the US Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework, the educators-endorsed contents of Joy Sprouts are diversified and entertaining; with themes ranging from the popular character Garfield to the preparation for Trinity College Grading Examinations in Spoken English (GESE).  All activities are set to cultivate children in five key areas under the Framework including “Physical”, “Cognitive”, “Language”, “Social” and “Approaches to learning”.  To make learning more interactive and engaging, the app keeps track of the child’s progress and gives recommendations to parents accordingly.

Processing Data by Mobile Workers Made Easy
Targeted at offering mobile applications for mobile workforce, the incubatee SillyCube Technology Ltd has launched the “Mobile Form System”.  By installing the system in mobile devices such as iPad or Android tablets, field workers can conveniently fill in the customisable electronic forms (e.g. inspection forms, surveys, sales order forms) on site, and the data will be seamlessly transmitted to servers of backend offices. This can tremendously lessen the workload of data inputting and thus achieving higher operation efficiency.

Cost-Effective LED Lamps with Ultra-long Lifetime
Another innovation can also help save operation cost.  Nonning Optoelectronics Co. Limited, which specialises in energy-saving LED technology, is proud to demonstrate two LED desk lamps namely “Classic Lamp” and “Angel Lamp” in the Expo.  Both have ultra-extended LED lifetime up to 30,000 hours, which is three times that of typical devices in the market, yet they only cost one third of the market price.  With a user friendly and elegant design, the lamps can be turned on/off with just a slight touch, while the brightness and angle are adjustable.

The above technology start-ups together with two partner companies of HKSTPC, namely P2 Mobile Technologies Ltd and PowerELab Ltd, will be showcasing their latest products in the HKTDC Inno Design Tech Expo from December 6 to 8.
