Panasonic has totally moved out of the semiconductor business by selling its last plant to Taiwan firm Nuvoton Technology. This follows the sale of its Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia plants in recent years.
According to a press statement, the Japanese giant has shifted from the AV area to the automotive and industrial area over the past few years.
The company has positioned sensing technologies such as image sensors, and the LiB application technologies such as IC for battery management and MOSTFET for LiB battery circuit protection as the focus areas. It aims to grow by consolidating resources in these areas.
Citing the highly competitive environment surrounding the semiconductor business, Panasoni considered transferring the business to Nuvoton as the best option.
