Source: GoogleMore people staying at or working from home during this COVID-19 period are turning to gaming as a source of entertainment or to get some respite. And now they can enjoy free access to Google’s paid cloud gaming platform Stadia Pro for two months.

After downloading the app from Apple App Store or Google Play Store, users can sign up and get instant access to nine games, including Destiny 2: The Collection, GRID and Thumper. After the free period, Stadia Pro is US$9.99 a month, but users can opt out any time. Current paid Stadia Pro subscribers will have their fees waived for two months.

“Keeping social distance is vital, but staying home for long periods can be difficult and feel isolating. Video games can be a valuable way to socialise with friends and family when you’re stuck at home, so we’re giving gamers in 14 countries free access to Stadia Pro for two months,” said Phil Harrison, Vice President and General Manager of Google Stadia.

Internet traffic has ballooned because of the number of people working from home.

According to Harrison, Google Stadia is taking  responsible approach to internet traffic.

“For Stadia, we’ve always adjusted bandwidth use based on a variety of in-home and local internet factors. To reduce load on the internet further, we’re working toward a temporary feature that changes the default screen resolution from 4k to 1080p. The vast majority of people on a desktop or laptop won’t notice a significant drop in gameplay quality, but you can choose your data usage options in the Stadia app,” he said.
