Come January, Singapore will have another category of employment pass for foreigners. The Tech.Pass announced today is aimed at attracting top tech talents to the island nation.
An expansion of the Tech@SG programme that launched by Singapore’s Economic Development Board and Enterprise Singapore last year, the new programme is targeted at founders, leaders and technical experts with experience in established or fast-growing tech companies who can contribute to the development of Singapore’s tech ecosystem.
Pass holders can start or run a business as an investor, employee, consultant in one or more Singapore-based companies, mentor start-ups and lecture at local universities.
For starters, 5000 places will be available with each pass valide for two years, followed by a one-time renewal of another two years.
“The issue of talent is one that preoccupies many countries and no country, regardless of size, will ever be able to say that they have sufficient talent for their needs. The competition for top global tech talent is intensifying with many countries competing in this space. In order to create exciting opportunities for our businesses and workers, we will continue to review our schemes and initiatives accordingly to remain attractive globally,” wrote Chan Chun Sing, Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry, in a Facebook post.
