NVIDIA provides Epic iOS reprieve

Fortnite is set for a return to iOS, thanks to NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW game streaming service.

NVIDIA and Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, are working on bringing the game back to the iOS platform via the Safari web browser, which is not subject to Apple’s App Store billing requirements.

“Alongside the amazing team at Epic Games, we’re working to enable a touch-friendly version of Fortnite, which will delay availability of the game. While the GeForce NOW library is best experienced on mobile with a gamepad, touch is how over 100 million Fortnite gamers have built, battled and danced their way to Victory Royale,” wrote Phil Eisler, General Manager of GeForce NOW at NVIDIA in a blog post.

This alternative route to hopping on to iOS again is a reprieve for Epic, which has been battling with Apple following the introduction of its own payment system.

What followed was a case of suit and countersuit with the cases, which also involves Google, now in the US court.
