Baidu gets nod for autonomous cars on Beijing open roads

Baidu has gotten the green light for commercial operation of its autonomous car service in Beijing.

With its first-ever commercial deployment on open roads, Apollo Go is taking a step towards large-scale commercial operation.

The permit lets Baidu charge for autonomous services offered to the public in a designated area.

Baidu will be providing more than 600 pick-up and drop-off points in commercial and residential areas, covering 60 square kilometres and 350 km of roads in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone.

Available every day from 7am to 10pm, the service can be booked using the Apollo Go App.
