Rakuten Kobo rolls out eco-friendly eReader

Rakuten Kobo has introduced the new Kobo Clara 2E eReader whose exterior is made primarily from recycled plastic.

The waterproof device is Kobo’s first eReader made with ocean-bound and recycled plastic, following the company’s commitment to use certified recycled materials wherever feasible.

Kobo expects to divert more than 200,000 plastic bottles from oceans and more than a million CDs and DVDs from landfills over the course of a year.

Kobo Clara 2E comes with a six-inch HD E Ink Carta 1200 glare-free screen that features dark mode and comfortlight pro with blue light reduction for late-night reading.

With battery life and 16GB of storage, it can store entire libraries of eBooks and Kobo Audiobooks to bring about lots of reading pleasure. Built-in Bluetooth wireless technology gives readers the flexibility to read or listen to the latest stories.

“Kobo Clara 2E is about living our values: providing a better reading experience while also taking an important step toward sustainability. “We believe that each small, thoughtful, and intentionally placed act can make a meaningful impact,” said Michael Tamblyn, CEO of Rakuten Kobo.

Pre-orders are available now at www.kobo.com and select retailers. Priced at S$219.90, the device will be available in stores and online from September 22 in Singapore, Australia and Malaysia among other countries.
