Siemens has launched an automated component model extraction solution that cuts noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) testing from days to hours.

The solution is developed with Bosch and built on its patented predictiveVIA technology.

As part of the Simcenter physical testing portfolio, the hardware-and-software system automates blocked force extraction in line with ISO 20270.

It combines automated test benches with Simcenter Testlab software, Simcenter SCADAS hardware and Simcenter for Qsources hardware to create simulation-ready component models that can be reused across vehicle and machinery variants.

The system reduces frequency response function measurement time by 93 percent compared with conventional methods, while delivering 100 percent accuracy and repeatability across component variants.

Engineers can test components such as electric motors, pumps, compressors, steering systems and actuators without attaching instruments directly to the part.

As shakers, accelerometers and control equipment remain on a self-measuring fixture, technicians can swap components by unbolting one unit and bolting on the next. This enables genuine batch throughput and removes much of the manual variability that has traditionally made component characterisation slow and difficult to reproduce.

“Automated component model extraction helps customers turn a complex, expert-driven process into a scalable engineering capability,” said Sam Mahalingam, Executive Vice President and Head of Simulation Software at Siemens.

“By combining automated testing with simulation-ready workflows and high-quality noise and vibration data, engineers can shift their focus from collecting data to gaining insights from it, enabling greater confidence in NVH performance earlier in development,” he added.

According to Bosch, the collaboration gives suppliers and vehicle makers a shared basis for digital NVH engineering across global test facilities.

“Automated component model extraction brings the speed, precision and consistency needed to industrialise blocked force testing,” said Christian Sperrle, Director of Product Management in Bosch USA’s Vehicle Motion division.
