Singapore telco StarHub has upped its 4G speed to 1Gbps — giving users faster access at various parts of the island.
First deployed in the Marina Bay area last August, the faster network will be rolled out in areas such as Bedok, Bishan, the Central Business District, Chinatown, Clarke Quay, Clementi, Orchard Road, and Tampines. Further expansion will be based on network traffic insight.
For starters, the improved StarHub service will only be available to subscribers using a compatible smartphone on the Unlimited Weekend postpaid mobile plans.
The move makes StarHub the first Singapore telco to offer such speed to subscribers. Competitor Singtel completed a 1Gbps trial in February but has yet to offer the service commercially.
