OnePlus announced OnePlus 6T, its latest smartphone to a hall packed with enthusiasts in New York City on October 29 — one day ahead of schedule to avoid conflicting with an Apple event the next day.
According to Pete Lau, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of OnePlus, the US was chosen because it is “one of our most important market”. Many of the company’s first community members are from the US.
While retaining many of the features of the OnePlus 6, the OnePlus 6T comes with one major addition — the world’s fastest fingerprint display sensor which powers up the device in 0.34 second.
The company experimented with Screen Unlock for last year’s OnePlus 5T but felt that the “speed wasn’t quite there yet,” said Kyle Kiang, Head of North America Region and Global Marketing of OnePlus.
Nightscape (above) and Studio Lighting are two new features added to the imaging software that will make the smartphone’s camera churn out even better looking photos.
Nightscape greatly enhances night photography while Studio Lighting makes portrait shots look like they are taken with photo studio lights. OnePlus 6 users will also benefit from Nightscape with a software update in November.
Gamers will be thrilled with Smart Boost, which uses RAM as storage for up to 20 percent faster gaming performance on games such as mobile PlayerUnknown’s Battleground.
Though already renowned for its Dash charging technology, the OnePlus 6T sports a bigger 3700 mAh battery for 23 percent longer battery life.
The OnePlus 6T is expected to be available in Singapore from next week. Local pricing is not available yet but US pricing starts from US$549 — a much more reasonable price compared to other flagships announced recently.
