IBM seals Red Hat deal

IBM has acquired Red Hat for US$34 billion, one of the biggest technology deals of all time — bettered only by Dell’s purchase of EMC for US$65 billion and Avago’s buyout of Broadcom for US$37 billion, both in 2015.Following the acquisition, Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst will remain at the helm and join IBM’s senior management, reporting to IBM CEO Ginni Rometty.

With the Red Hat portfolio under its wings, the 1990s technology giant will be able to provide a wider spread of software offerings to its customers.

Founded in 1993, Red Hat is known for its Red Hat Enterprise Linux enterprise operating system, JBoss enterprise middleware, and Red Hat Virtualization enterprise virtualisation product.
