VMware makes double acquisition

Ahead of the VMWorld in San Francisco next week, VMware has announced two major acquisitions — Pivotal for US$2.7 billion and Carbon Black for US$1.9 billion.Pivotal is a US-based software and services company that provides cloud platform hosting, business transformation services, enterprise application design environments, containers, microservices, and consulting services.

According to Pat Gelsinger, CEO at VMware, the acquisition of Pivotal will enable the company to deliver a comprehensive Kubernetes portfolio for building, running and managing applications fit for the multicloud era.

Carbon Black is a cybersecurity company that develops cloud-native endpoint security software.

“With this acquisition, VMware will also take a significant leadership position in security for the new age of modern applications delivered from any cloud to any device,” said Gelsinger.
