NetApp has acquired JetStream Software, adding VMware disaster recovery and migration technology to its data-protection portfolio.
The deal comes as enterprises seek to protect VMware environments across mixed storage estates while gradually shifting production workloads to the cloud.
JetStream’s technology will allow customers to protect VMware workloads running on virtually any storage platform and recover them on NetApp’s first-party services, including Azure NetApp Files. Its capabilities will complement NetApp’s SnapMirror replication technology, which remains focused on NetApp environments.
“Customers want to move to the cloud on their schedule, not their infrastructure’s schedule,” said Pravjit Tiwana (top), Senior Vice President and General Manager of cloud storage and services at NetApp.
The acquisition gives NetApp a broader route into the VMware installed base, including customers using third-party storage, expanding its cyber-resilience offerings beyond storage management and into recovery, workload mobility and cloud migration.
JetStream is NetApp’s second announced acquisition in 2026, following its purchase of DataPelago in July.
