Oracle and AWS expand database and AI alliance

Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have expanded their partnership to provide enterprises with a simpler path to modernise core Oracle databases on AWS without moving data between clouds, rewriting applications, or sacrificing performance.

The expanded collaboration broadens access to Oracle AI Database@AWS, now live in 22 AWS regions across Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. The milestone comes alongside the general availability of Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure, bringing Exadata-class performance, elasticity, and AI readiness directly into AWS environments.

A long-standing enterprise pain point is modernising mission-critical Oracle workloads while retaining full use of AWS’s AI and analytics tools including Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Redshift and Amazon SageMaker. By running Oracle databases natively within AWS, enterprises can apply generative and agentic AI to live operational data, cutting migration complexity, cost, and risk.

The newly available Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure is designed to extend Exadata performance and pay-per-use economics to enterprises of different sizes.

Instead of requiring dedicated database and storage servers, the service lets customers specify the compute and storage capacity they need while distributing databases across pooled storage servers to make Exadata more practical for smaller workloads as well as multi-region deployments for high availability and disaster recovery.

The service also supports instant thin cloning for customers to create database copies for development and testing without duplicating storage, while the Exadata foundation can support AI-related workloads including those using Oracle AI Vector Search, which enables customers to retrieve information from business data based on meaning and context rather than relying only on keyword searches.

Application-to-database round-trip latency is as low as 165 microseconds, which would support latency-sensitive workloads such as online transaction processing, enterprise resource planning and AI-enabled operational applications.

Real-world adoption

The Oracle-AWS collaboration is already being reflected in customer deployments across various industries.

South Korean beauty and wellness retailer CJ Olive Young, which operates more than 1,380 stores, is using Oracle AI Database@AWS to migrate core workloads and integrate data across Oracle and AWS.

Kobalt Music Group is using Oracle AI Database@AWS for its digital collection platform, which processes online and offline music consumption data and distributes royalties to songwriters, publishers and rights holders.
