Perplexity has unveiled the Portable Computer local AI agent app optimised to run on NVIDIA DGX Spark personal AI systems to enable private, always-on workflows that bypass cloud token limits.
Portable Computer is a simple-to-use agent that connects to productivity apps including Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub, while letting users switch between local and cloud models depending on task complexity.
Its local AI stack is tuned specifically for DGX Spark, with support for GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs slated to arrive soon.
When running locally, Perplexity offers one-click local inference setup and an optimised experience for local NVIDIA hardware, initially via a specially post-trained Qwen 3.8 27B model. Under development is a fine-tuned Nemotron 3.5 Lightning variant for ultra-fast responses with Windows and DGX Station support in the pipeline.
Perplexity’s emphasis on local execution aligns with broader enterprise interest in keeping sensitive data and credentials on-device while still leveraging capable open models for coding, research and workflow automation.
Portable Computer is available via the Perplexity app.
