LG scales AI chiller production to 3 plants

LG Electronics is scaling up manufacturing of cooling systems for AI data centres by adding a new facility in the United States and expanding two sites in South Korea to serve booming global demand.

It will invest KRW 150 billion (about US$112 million) across the three locations: a new air-cooled chiller plant in Windsor, Virginia, and expanded lines in Pyeongtaek and Changwon. The Virginia facility with 30,000 sq m of floor space on a 170,000 sq m site — is set to begin production in the H1 of 2027.

With more than half of the world’s AI data centres located in North America, local manufacturing will deliver faster response and reliable supply to the region.

In Korea, LG is installing conveyor-based mass-production systems to boost efficiency and output. The moves advance its broader “Chip-to-Chiller” strategy, an end-to-end portfolio spanning cold plates, Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), chillers, and integrated power and management software.

“We will continue to strengthen our core capabilities in AI data centre cooling solutions, from differentiated product technologies to production capacity,” said James Lee, President of LG Eco Solution. “With these capabilities, we will ensure a stable supply and actively address rapidly growing market demand.”
