Oppo is moving its smartphone AI beyond chat. A new collaboration with AI agent platform Manus will put agentic capabilities inside AI Mind Pilot to enable users to hand over multi-step tasks and receive finished results rather than a list of links or answers.

Manus’ technology will debut in AI Mind Pilot’s new Agent Mode on the upcoming Oppo Find X10 Series, which runs ColorOS 17. The system can understand a user’s goal, break it into steps, find relevant information, choose tools, and deliver a completed output, including working with files and photos stored on the device.

“Agentic AI marks an important shift from answering questions to helping users get things done,” said Kai Tang, President of Software Engineering at Oppo. “Together with Manus, we are bringing more proactive and capable experiences to AI Mind Pilot, enabling AI to better understand users’ intentions, take actions and complete tasks. Our goal is to make personal AI a natural part of everyday life and work.”

Use cases

For instance, in travel planning, a user could ask AI Mind Pilot to organise a trip. The assistant would then locate flights, hotels, restaurant bookings, and attraction tickets across apps, then combine them with online information and produce a personalised day-by-day itinerary.

Creative and work use cases include finding and sorting trip photos or combining local files with online research to produce a presentation, proposal or portfolio from a single prompt.

“Smartphones are central to people’s daily lives and support many of the tasks they handle every day, making them a natural platform for personal AI agents,” Tao Zhang, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Manus. “By bringing together Manus’ agentic capabilities and Oppo’s system-level integration, we can make advanced AI agents more accessible and help users complete multi-step tasks through simple, natural interactions.”

Privacy control

As the assistant handles personal files and photos, ColorOS 17 uses on-device models to organise local information, and original content stays on the device for local tasks such as finding, organising or renaming files and photos.

When a task requires external processing, AI Mind Pilot will ask for explicit confirmation before uploading or sharing relevant content. Users retain control over what information is accessed, which actions are taken and whether external processing is permitted.

Agent Mode will initially support both Manus and ChatGPT. Oppo will offer a complimentary usage allowance, while users with existing Manus or ChatGPT subscriptions can connect their accounts and continue using their current plans.

One response to “Oppo brings Manus’ agentic AI to smartphones”

  1. The travel planning example is a good illustration of where this gets tricky. Finding flights and hotels is low risk, but actual bookings and ticket purchases are the kind of step I’d want the agent to stop and confirm before doing. The article mentions finished results rather than links. Do you know whether Agent Mode on the Find X10 asks for approval before payments or messages go out, or is that left to each app?
