Tencent is opening an office in Singapore that will serve as its Asia hub.The WeChat owner has offices in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, highlighting the importance of the region to the company.
According to Bloomberg, management at China’s largest social media and gaming company had been discussing Singapore as a potential regional hub and geopolitical tensions accelerated its plans.
The WeChat owner is facing roadblocks in India and the US. India has banned 118 Chinese apps as a result of its dispute with China along their Himalayan border, while the US has banned any transaction with Tencent as part of its economic tussle with China.
Tencent is ramping up recruitment for the new Singapore office. It is looking to fill positions such as business development managers, data analysts, data scientists, operations managers, and system developers.
