Instagram has got two new tabs — a Reels tab fors discovering short and fun videos, and a Shop tab to provide easy acess to brands and products.
Reels was first announced in August when Instagram invited creators to produce fun videos to share with friends or anyone on the social media platform. They can record and edit multi-clip videos with audio and add effects with other creative tools. Besides their followers, creators can also reach out to a global audience through a new space in Explore.
Shop is really a place where users can browse for things to buy and support small businesses. It will host personalised recommendations, editors’ picks and shoppable videos and products.
“We don’t take these changes lightly — we haven’t updated Instagram’s home screen in a big way for quite a while. But how people create and enjoy culture has changed, and the biggest risk to Instagram is not that we change too fast, but that we don’t change and become irrelevant,” wrote Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, in a blog post.
“We’re excited about the new design and believe it gives the app a much-needed refresh, while staying true to our core value of simplicity,” he added.
