WhatsApp has rolled out Incognito Chat with Meta AI that lets users hold temporary, private conversations with Meta’s chatbot that even Meta cannot access.
Built on WhatsApp’s private processing technology, the new mode processes messages in a secure environment, does not save conversation history by default, and makes messages disappear when the session ends.
Users start an incognito session from one-on-one Meta AI chats using a new icon, creating a private, temporary conversation visible only to the user.
Messages are handled in a secure processing environment that Meta cannot read or store. These messages are deleted automatically when the chat is closed.
Incognito Chat is text-only as users can type questions and receive text replies but cannot upload images or generate new images inside the mode.
Safety restrictions remain in place to protect against harmful content. Users must confirm age where required.
Meta will roll the feature out to WhatsApp and the standalone Meta AI app over the coming months.
