Information and communications technology (ICT) spending in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) will hit US$1.5 trillion in 2021, according to IDC.
In its IDC Worldwide Black Book: 3rd Platform Edition, the research firm predicts that innovation accelerators such as 3D printing, augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR), cognitive artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, and security will grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.6 percent from 2016-21, faster than the four pillar technologies of big data and analytics, cloud, mobility, and social, which is projected to grow at 5.2 percent CAGR.
“Innovation accelerators, including IoT solutions, robots and drones, AR/VR headsets, and 3D printers, will account for almost 40 percent of the total ICT spending by 2021 estimated around US$619.1 billion,” said Ashutosh Bisht, Research Manager for Customer Insights and Analysis at IDC Asia Pacific.
