The battle between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musl has intensified following Meta’s launch of Threads, which is a direct competition to Twitter.
Built by the Instagram team, Threads is eaily accessible using Instagram credentials. Users can post threads of up to 500 characters long and include links, photos and videos up to five minutes in length. They can also block, restrict, unfollow, or report others on Threads by tapping the three-dot menu. Any account users blocked on Instagram will automatically be blocked on Threads.
“Our vision with Threads is to take what Instagram does best and expand that to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas. Just like on Instagram, with Threads you can follow and connect with friends and creators who share your interests – including the people you follow on Instagram and beyond. And you can use our existing suite of safety and user controls,” wrote a Meta post.
With Instagram having around two billion active monthly users, of which more than 500 million are active daily, Threads has an easily reachable target group that exceeds Twitter’s reported 450 million active monthly users.
The app is available in more than 100 countries and downloadable from Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

On a sidenote, a similarly named team communications platform has quickly distanced itself from Meta’s Threads. Wonder if users may accidentally download this instead?
