Singapore to cease 3G services in July 2024

Hello, 3G users! Come July 31, 2024, it’s the end of 3G services in Singapore. All three telcos — M1, Singtel and StarHub — will be retiring their 3G offerings from that date.

3G has come a long way since its introduction in 2005, providing mobile voice, messaging and data to an entire generation.

In recent years, mobile operators have been encouraging 3G subscribers to migrate to newer 4G and 5G mobile networks.

However, a a small percentage continues to use 3G services, comprising users on older mobile devices or SIM cards that cannot connect to newer 4G and 5G networks.

In the coming months, proactive measures will be taken to communicate the transition to 3G users and extend assistance to those who need help migrating.

Once 3G ceases, the Singapore telcos will be able to repurpose some of the freed-up spectrum to improve 5G services, which offer faster speeds, higher data throughput, as well as enhanced security and reliability.
