Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH) Group and Google Cloud have expanded their partnership to deliver next-generation sovereign cloud and edge cloud services in Indonesia.
A pivotal step in Indonesia’s digital transformation journey, this collaboration aims to meet the country’s stringent data residency, security, and privacy requirements.
Indosat will offer Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) to organisations across industries such as defense, healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing. This initiative aims to empower organisations to run AI and data-intensive workloads at their preferred locations, ensuring complete control and protection of sensitive data.
GDC provides a fully managed solution with a range of software services and hardware options, allowing for operations both air-gapped from the public internet and connected to Google’s cloud infrastructure within Indonesia.
“The partnership with Google Cloud is driven by empowering Indonesia, aiming to deliver the country’s first sovereign cloud and edge cloud solutions. These solutions will equip organisations with the state-of-the-art infrastructure, operational features, and developer tools they need to accelerate digitalization at scale,” said Vikram Sinha, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of IOH Group.
The introduction of sovereign cloud solutions is particularly significant in light of Indonesia’s data protection laws, which mandate that personal data be stored and processed within the country’s borders. This partnership ensures compliance with these regulations, including the Personal Data Protection Law and Government Regulation No 71, by offering on-premises hosting options through Indosat’s data centre arms.
“Indonesia’s public sector and regulated industries require solutions that meet strict data sovereignty and regulatory requirements. Our partnership with Indosat Group will introduce next-generation, local sovereign cloud and edge cloud solutions to empower public sector and regulated organisations to accelerate digital transformation on their own terms,” said Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive Officer of Google Cloud.
Indonesian organisations will gain access to advanced AI capabilities via Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform, enabling the development and deployment of machine learning applications. They will also benefit from Google Cloud’s hardware and software resources, such as Google Kubernetes Engine, NVIDIA Tensor Core GPUs, and Dataproc for data analytics.
