Free cloud training for students in Indonesia

Google Cloud and Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) have joined up to launch the Google Cloud Career Launchpad initiative to empower Indonesian students with essential cloud skills.

This initiative aims to provide students with the practical skills required to thrive in entry-level cloud roles, a crucial step in today’s technology-driven job market.

“As a start, this initiative aims to benefit 8,500 students over the next 12 months, with plans for expansion to reach even more students in both metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas, in line with our strategy for strengthening regional digital ecosystems under the Digital Indonesia Vision (VID) 2045,” said Nezar Patria, Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Communications and Informatics.

The Google Cloud Career Launchpad covers a comprehensive suite of programmes and courses for students to earn industry-recognised Google Cloud Certificates and skills badges. The offerings include the Cloud Computing Foundations Certificate, Cloud Engineering Certificate, Cloud Data Analytics Certificate, and Cloud Cybersecurity Certificate. Students can also earn a Cloud Digital Leader skills badge and a Generative AI (GenAI) skills badge, which cover foundational cloud literacy and advanced AI applications, respectively.

The programme is integrated with Kemenkominfo’s Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) platform, where students’ learning outcomes are translated into verifiable e-certificates. These credentials provide access to the Diploy platform that allow students to explore job and internship opportunities with leading local employers. Students can also showcase their achievements on the Credly global platform for digital credentials to enhance their visibility to recruiters and hiring managers.

To further support students’ career readiness, Google offers the GenAI-powered Interview Warmup tool that helps students practise interview questions.

“We look forward to collaborating with more educational institutions, government agencies, and nonprofits to build a more equitable and inclusive skills-based talent ecosystem,” said Fanly Tanto, Country Director of Google Cloud Indonesia

Participating higher education partners include the University of Indonesia, Bandung Institute of Technology and Telkom University. Students from these institutions can register for the programmes through DTS, with courses set to commence in September 2024.
