Talisay strides towards smart city status with centralised communication system

The municipality of Talisay in Batangas in the Philippines has taken a step towards becoming a smart city by partnering with PLDT Enterprise to centralise voice and data services in its new municipal building.

This move aims to improve public service delivery and the quality of life for 45,000 residents across 21 barangays.

“To be a smart city, which is our ultimate goal, we need to innovate our operations. Digitalization is essential not only for the Municipal Hall but also for all the barangays, schools, and hospitals, so we may provide fast and efficient public service,” said Nestor Natanauan, Mayor of Talisay.

The centralised communication system includes enterprise-grade infrastructure supporting advanced voice and data solutions. It is designed to streamline communication for faster response times and more organised interactions between departments and constituents.

“Enterprise-grade connectivity infrastructure is the backbone of smart cities,” said Ruby Montoya, Vice President and Head of Enterprise Revenue Group at PLDT Enterprise.

With this digital transformation initiative, Talisay’s residents and administration will benefit from quicker resolution of issues and delivery of services. By consolidating voice and data services, the municipality can potentially reduce operational costs associated with maintaining multiple communication systems.

The new system features a one-number hotline that makes it easier for citizens to reach the appropriate government services, improving overall public engagement. It also enables more efficient data capture and management, providing valuable insights for urban planning and service improvement.

Talisay’s transformation may inspire a wave of similar initiatives across the country, leading to more efficient, responsive, and technologically advanced local governments throughout the Philippines.
