EVs dominate Singapore Motorshow 2025

The Singapore Motorshow 2025 opened its doors today, with electric and hybrid vehicles accounting for a record-breaking 70 percent of the 160 vehicles on display.

This surge in electric vehicle (EV) representation mirrors the rapid growth of Singapore’s EV market and the government’s push towards sustainable transportation.

As of May 2024, EVs represented 2.6 percent of Singapore’s total car population, a significant increase from just one percent at the end of 2022. Demand for EVs are set to grow rapidly with projections suggesting that by 2040, up to 80 percent of all passenger vehicles in Singapore will be electric.

Major EV car makers have or are launching new models to capture a slice of this growing market.

BYD, currently leading the EV market share at 22.4 percent, is showcasing its latest models at the show, including the premiere of the BYD Sealion 7 (top).

Also making their debut are the Denza D9, a luxurious all-electric seven-seater MPV, and the Yangwang U9 (above), a flagship pure electric supercar.

KIA is also unveiling its new EV5 (above), built on the third-generation E-GMP platform.

General public tickets for Singapore Motorshow 2025 at Suntec Exhibition and Convention Centre are available for S$10, with limited preview tickets offered on-site for S$20, while children under 1.2 metres enter free. Attendees can redeem a complimentary gift with any purchase from January 9 to 11, 2025.
