Adobe brings professional editing to smartphones with Photoshop mobile app

Adobe has released a full-featured Photoshop app for mobile devices — available now for iPhone and later for Android — marking the debut of its flagship image editing software’s full capabilities on smartphones.

Available in both free and premium versions, the app caters to a wide range of users from beginners to professionals.

The free version comes with an impressive array of features, allowing users to create unique images and designs using core Photoshop tools. Users can combine, composite and blend images using selections, layers and masks. It also includes the intuitive Tap Select tool for removing, recolouring or replacing parts of an image, as well as the Spot Healing Brush for quick touch-ups.

Users can access generative AI features such as Generative Fill and Generative Expand, powered by Adobe Firefly, to easily add new elements to designs and quickly edit photos. The app also integrates seamlessly with other Adobe creative apps such as Express, Fresco and Lightroom.

Those seeking more advanced capabilities can opt for the Photoshop Mobile and Web plan priced at US$7.99 per month or US$69.99 annually. This premium version unlocks a host of additional features, including access to Photoshop on the web for seamless workflow across devices.

Premium users can enjoy expanded access to commercially safe, Firefly-powered tools such as Generate Similar and Reference Image. They also have access to more than 20,000 fonts, advanced selection tools such as Object Select and Magic Wand, and powerful editing features including Remove Tool, Clone Stamp and Content-Aware Fill.

The introduction of Photoshop to mobile devices marks a significant shift in Adobe’s strategy, making professional-grade image editing more accessible than ever before. By offering a robust free version alongside a feature-rich premium option, Adobe is poised to capture a new generation of creators while providing flexibility for established professionals.

“Photoshop’s new mobile and web apps unlock next generation creativity, empowering creators to bring to life gorgeous photos, rich graphics and incredible art anytime, anywhere,” said Ashley Still, Senior Vice President of Digital Media at Adobe.
