Selangor’s state government has launched the Teraju AI Selangor initiative to equip state government agencies with the tools and expertise needed to develop and implement custom AI solutions that address real-world challenges.
Funded by the state government and in collaboration with Google Cloud, the project is designed to improve public services in key areas such as citizen communications, education, healthcare, transportation and infrastructure maintenance. It also seeks to boost tourism and agricultural output by leveraging AI-driven solutions.
“We recognise the potential of generative AI (GenAI) and agentic AI to reshape public service and accelerate Selangor’s transformation into a leading smart state. We’re therefore taking decisive action through Teraju AI Selangor, equipping state agencies with the essential toolset and training to help them effectively and responsibly harness these technologies,” said YAB Dato Seri Amirudin Bin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor.
Teraju AI Selangor features a first of its kind in Malaysia AI innovation sandbox for the public sector. Established by the Selangor Technical Skills Development Center (STDC) and Google Cloud, this sandbox provides participating agencies with access to Google Cloud’s comprehensive AI technology stack for up to six weeks. This includes fully managed AI-optimised infrastructure, Vertex AI for customising AI models, BigQuery for data management, and Gemini Code Assist for AI-powered coding support.
To ensure effective utilisation of these technologies, agencies will participate in a full-day workshop conducted by STDC and Google Cloud, where they will receive hands-on training to identify strategic AI use cases and develop prototype solutions.
Over the next six weeks, these prototypes will be tested and refined with technical support from STDC, Google Cloud and Cloud Space. The most promising solutions will be showcased later this year, with potential further funding for full-scale implementation.
“Teraju AI Selangor is designed to empower state agencies with an enterprise AI toolset and hands-on training curriculum, crafted by Google Cloud experts who’ve been shaping this field. This initiative will nurture a public sector workforce that’s capable of translating technological promise into real-world applications that deliver tangible value for communities,” said Mohd Nazri Bin Noh, Chairman of STDC’s Board of Directors.
“Google Cloud’s technology stack is purpose-built to address public sector organisations’ full spectrum of AI innovation needs, including explainability, security, and privacy. In the coming weeks, we look forward to showcasing AI solutions that advance each agency’s mission and make a positive difference in the lives of citizens,” said Serene Sia, Country Director of Malaysia and Singapore at Google Cloud.
