Alibaba Cloud to open 2nd data centre in South Korea

Alibaba Cloud plans to launch its second data centre in South Korea by the end of June 2025. The move is in response to surging demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence services among local businesses, and comes just three years after its first South Korean data centre was established.

The new facility aims to support the rapid adoption of generative AI and digital transformation across industries in South Korea.

Following the launch, Alibaba Cloud will introduce a wider range of cloud-native, big data and database products tailored to support advanced AI applications. The new data centre is expected to deliver improved cloud resilience, enhanced network performance and robust capabilities for high availability and disaster recovery.

“Through the launch of this second data centre, Alibaba Cloud will provide customers with more resilient and adaptable cloud environments, ultimately fostering AI innovation across various sectors and expanding the digital ecosystem,” said Yoon Yong-joon, Country Manager of South Korea at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

Alibaba Cloud has been active in the South Korean market since 2016, supporting a range of industries with scalable and secure digital solutions.

Its local partnerships include collaborations with AI solutions provider Univa, which leveraged Alibaba Cloud’s generative AI to boost Korean language processing accuracy, and livestreaming company Lala Station, which expanded into Southeast Asia using Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure.

The company has also achieved the Korea Information Security Management System (K-ISMS) certification for its South Korean data centre infrastructure.
