Alibaba Cloud has established its first AI Global Competency Center (AIGCC) in Singapore to accelerate enterprise AI adoption and talent development on a global scale.
It aims to support more than 5,000 businesses and 100,000 developers by providing access to advanced AI models, powerful computing resources and a dedicated AI Innovation Lab.
The lab will offer token credits, curated datasets and personalised support for experimentation and deployment tailored to real-world industry needs.
As a collaborative innovation hub, AIGCC plans to bring together more than 1,000 companies and startups to co-develop next-generation AI solutions. It will introduce over 10 AI agents across industries such as finance, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, retail, and energy.
To address the global demand for AI talent, Alibaba Cloud will partner with more than 120 universities and institutions worldwide to train 100,000 AI professionals annually.
“Over the past decade, Singapore has been both an innovation centre and a gateway to the region’s digital economy. As we celebrate this important milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering businesses of all sizes and verticals while advancing cutting-edge AI innovations and driving sustainable digital transformation in Singapore for years to come,” said Selina Yuan (top), President of International Business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.
In addition to the new AI centre, the company announced significant upgrades to its cloud offerings, including enhanced Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) products, and new AI tools.
These upgrades are designed to streamline data preparation, accelerate the deployment of large language model-powered applications, and improve efficiency for high-performance computing workloads.
While Singapore remains its regaional headquarters, Alibaba Cloud is also expanding its data centre footprint across Southeast Asia, with new facilities opening in Malaysia and the Philippines in 2025. These expansions are intended to meet growing demand for secure, resilient and scalable cloud and AI services throughout the region.
