Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has doubled the size of its networking business following the completion of its US$14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks.
The integration of Juniper’s AI-native networking solutions with HPE’s existing portfolio is expected to provide customers with a comprehensive, cloud-native and AI-driven IT stack that spans from silicon and hardware to software and services.
“Today begins a new era for HPE – we are now at the epicenter of the transformation of IT, where AI and networking are converging,” said Antonio Neri, President and CEO of HPE.
“Together, we’ll be able to provide customers and partners with a secure network that is purpose-built with AI and for AI,” said Rami Rahim, former CEO of Juniper Networks.
Building a Modern IT Powerhouse
The Juniper deal is the latest in a series of strategic acquisitions by HPE aimed at strengthening its position in cloud, networking and AI.
In 2023, it acquired OpsRamp, an IT operations management company specialising in hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The integration of OpsRamp’s AIOps platform with HPE GreenLake has enhanced HPE’s capabilities in observability, automation and intelligent IT operations management.
HPE purchased Silver Peak, a leader in SD-WAN technology, for US$925 million in 2020. Silver Peak was merged with HPE’s Aruba business to bolster HPE’s edge-to-cloud strategy and expand its offerings in secure, cloud-connected networking.
In a US$3 billion deal in 2015, HPE acquired Aruba Networks, which has since become the cornerstone of HPE’s networking business.
