Starbucks China accelerates supply chain sustainability with Univers

Starbucks China is partnering with Univers to accelerate supply chain sustainability and drive decarbonisation throughout its operations.

The collaboration brings Univers’ advanced AI and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions to Starbucks’ China value chain, letting the coffee giant to digitally monitor, measure, and actively reduce Scope 3 emissions that are generated beyond direct operations, primarily across suppliers.

By gaining new digital visibility, Starbucks hopes to deliver actionable emission reductions and anchor its suppliers in their own low-carbon transitions.

More than 7,500 Starbucks stores in China are now connected to a joint AI and IoT platform. The ecosystem provides real-time and remote monitoring of over eight types of store equipment, such as HVAC, lighting and water filtration. AI-driven insights enhance energy efficiency, boost in-store experiences for partners and customers, and optimise resource use.

Leveraging the EnOS Ark Carbon Management System developed by Univers. Starbucks will build a supply chain carbon management solution to track carbon emissions from core suppliers and products.

As milk is the largest carbon emitter in Starbucks’ supply chain, the partnership has produced a sustainable dairy digital management tool to provide detailed carbon baseline tracking, support planning for emissions reduction, and help trial new lower-impact farm practices.

Starbucks’ business growth will also be supported by Univers’ One Box edge computing device that consolidates computing and management across five types of store systems.
