Baidu’s Apollo Go has secured Dubai’s first batch of autonomous driving test licences and will be launching open-road trials in urban Dubai with its fleet of 50 sixth-generation autonomous vehicles (RT6).
It is the only platform permitted for public driverless ride trials at the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport.
Granted by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the permits signal the city’s commitment to pioneering intelligent mobility and integrating autonomous technology into its transport ecosystem.
Building on an agreement between Apollo Go and RTA earlier this year, this initiative will expand to more than1,000 fully driverless vehicles by 2028, aligning Dubai’s urban infrastructure with its vision for smart, connected cities.
“Leveraging our autonomous driving technologies and fleet operation expertise, we will conduct all required testing and operations to enable seamless localisation. Together with the RTA, we aim to co-build a global benchmark for intelligent transportation and contribute to solidifying Dubai’s position as a world-leading autonomous city,” said Liang Zhang, Managing Director of EMEA at Baidu Apollo.
