NVIDIA, Microsoft and Anthropic form US$45b AI alliance

NVIDIA, Microsoft and Anthropic have forged a strategic partnership that commits tens of billions of dollars in investments and cloud compute capacity to accelerate AI innovation and adoption.

Anthropic will scale its rapidly growing AI capabilities on Microsoft Azure powered by NVIDIA’s cutting-edge GPU architectures. The developer of the Claude AI model has committed to purchase US$30 billion of Azure compute capacity over coming years, including an initial contract for up to one gigawatt of compute power using NVIDIA’s Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin AI systems.

NVIDIA and Microsoft will invest in Anthropic to support this expansion. NVIDIA is investing up to US$10 billion and Microsoft up to US$5 billion directly into Anthropic. This shows the confidence in Anthropic’s potential as a formidable AI innovator and competitor to OpenAI.

With this deal, Anthropic’s Claude models are now deeply integrated into Microsoft Azure AI Foundry to offer enterprises access to both Claude and OpenAI’s GPT frontier models on one platform. Developers and businesses can choose models that are best suited for their needs, whether for advanced reasoning, content creation or coding assistance.

Claude’s deployment within Microsoft’s product ecosystem, including GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Copilot Studio, makes powerful AI-driven productivity tools increasingly accessible and capable. The integration supports real-time multi-step workflows, AI automation and sophisticated task orchestration that improves coding, research and customer support at scale.

Deep technical collaboration

For the first time, NVIDIA and Anthropic are undertaking a close technology partnership to co-engineer future NVIDIA architectures optimised for Anthropic’s AI workloads. The collaboration is designed to maximise performance, efficiency and total cost of ownership, a critical factor as AI models grow significantly in size and complexity.

This synergy extends beyond hardware to software innovation, making Claude models safer and more interpretable via Constitutional AI techniques, while enabling enterprise-grade governance and observability through Azure’s management tools.

The three-party alliance positions Microsoft and NVIDIA as critical infrastructure and platform providers while fostering Anthropic’s rise as a strong alternative to OpenAI, with differentiated AI capabilities focused on safety, interpretability and enterprise readiness.
