Sumsub advances digital trust with Singpass integration, deepfake research

Sumsub has announced two major initiatives — a key integration with Singpass for document-free digital onboarding, and a landmark research collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to develop watermarking technologies against deepfake threats.

Sumsub’s new Singpass integration, part of its non-doc verification products, allows businesses operating in Singapore to quickly authenticate users using government-verified data, reducing onboarding time to just 4.5 seconds and improving customer pass rates by up to 35 percent.

The integration is compliant with the Monetary Authority of Singapore and Personal Data Protection Act standards, seeking to make onboarding both faster and more secure for the nation’s more than five million Singpass users.

Sumsub has also inked a research collaboration agreement with NTU Singapore to launch Asia-Pacific’s first initiative under Sumsub’s AI Academic Programme. The partnership aims to develop human-imperceptible watermarking methods for personal images and make it significantly harder for deepfake technologies to misuse individuals’ identities online.

“Facilitating integration with Singpass and our research partnership with NTU reflect our commitment to supporting the country’s digital trust ecosystem and to contributing to a safer, fraud-resilient digital environment. At Sumsub, we are dedicated to working alongside regulators, academia, and businesses throughout the region to build a more secure, accessible, and inclusive digital future,” said Andrew Sever (top right), Co-founder and CEO of Sumsub.

“Through this collaboration, we are advancing watermarking techniques that can help enhance trust by safeguarding personal identities before misuse occurs. By developing defences that work at scale and in real-world online environments, this research will contribute to Singapore’s broader efforts in building digital trust and ensuring a safer online ecosystem,” said Professor Lam Kwok Yan, Associate Vice President (Strategy & Partnerships) and Executive Director of Digital Trust Centre at NTU.

Sumsub’s initiatives align closely with Singapore’s Smart Nation 2.0 goals of building digital trust, promoting innovation-driven growth, and strengthening a connected, technology-enabled community for all citizens.
