Micron Technology broke ground on a major new wafer fabrication facility in Singapore.
The US$24 billion project is Singapore’s first double-story wafer fab and will add 700,000 square feet of cleanroom space in Micron’s existing NAND complex in Woodlands.
It will create 1,600 high-skilled jobs in fab engineering, AI, robotics, and smart manufacturing, adding to 1,400 from prior expansions for 3,000 total roles.
“Micron’s latest expansion will strengthen our semiconductor ecosystem and further anchor Singapore as a critical node in the global semiconductor supply chain. This investment rides on growth in AI and will provide good jobs for Singaporeans,” said Jermaine Loy, Managing Director of Singapore Economic Development Board.
Wafer production starts in late 2028, integrating with a nearby high-bandwidth memory (HBM) packaging site for synergies in DRAM and NAND output.
“This investment underscores Micron’s long-term commitment to Singapore as an important hub in our global manufacturing network, enhancing supply chain resiliency and fostering a vibrant ecosystem for innovation,” said Manish Bhatia (top), Executive Vice President of Global Operations at Micron Technology.
