AMD has signed three major deals in South Korea that span cloud infrastructure, AI memory and domestic large‑language‑model development. The trio of strategic partnerships are with Naver Cloud, Samsung Electronics and Upstage.
Its strategic collaboration with Naver Cloud involves building out Korea’s sovereign AI infrastructure using its EPYC processors and Instinct accelerators. Naver Cloud will expand its deployment of AMD EPYC chips, including the upcoming 6th Gen Venice processors, and gain early access to next-generation Instinct MI455X GPUs for large-scale AI training and inference across its cloud and AI services.
The two companies will jointly tune Naver’s AI services and software stacks on AMD hardware and AMD’s ROCm software, and work on new AI services and solutions for Naver customers.
“Sovereign AI infrastructure plays a critical role in accelerating how nations build and deploy advanced AI. Our expanded collaboration with Naver Cloud brings together AMD’s leadership AI compute platforms and open software ecosystem with Naver’s cloud and AI capabilities to enable scalable infrastructure and accelerate the next generation of AI in Korea,” said Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD.
Her company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Samsung to deepen their long-running technology partnership around next-generation AI memory and computing platforms.
Under the MOU, Samsung will align industry-leading HBM4 supply for AMD’s forthcoming Instinct MI455X GPU and develop advanced DRAM solutions for 6th Gen EPYC CPUs.
They will also collaborate on high-performance DDR5 memory optimised for EPYC-based systems and explore foundry opportunities where Samsung could manufacture future AMD products.
AMD and Upstage have inked an expanded strategic collaboration to advance next‑generation AI development and contribute to Korea’s sovereign AI ecosystem.
Upstage, South Korea’s leading AI lab focused on artificial general intelligence, will deploy AMD Instinct MI355 GPUs and follow a multi‑phase roadmap over the next year to scale its large language models and document‑processing engines for enterprise workflows and sovereign‑AI initiatives.
A key goal of the partnership is to support a sovereign AI model as part of Korea’s government‑led Proprietary AI Foundation Model project, pairing AMD’s Instinct GPUs and ROCm open‑software ecosystem with Upstage’s large language model expertise.
