India PC market soars with 4.5m units in Q3

The India PC market hit 4,5 million units in Q3, an increase of 14 percent year-on-year, according to IDC.

Leading the growth was the desktop segment with 19.3 percent increase while the notebook category was up by 13.1 percent.

It was the consumer segment that led the market with 26.3 percent upswing as the commercial segment remained flat.

A portion of the Gujarat education project materialised in Q3 to drive the education segment’s growth of 117.5 percent. The eTailer channel grew 26.4 percent in Q3 on the back of festival sales after four consecutive declines.

“In August, the Government of India declared a mandatory requirement of import licenses for PCs from October 30. Though this decision was later put on hold, vendors shipped significant channel inventory to avoid any risks of supply shortages or price hikes, not to mention ensuring sufficient supplies for festival season sales,” said Bharath Shenoy, Senior Research Analyst of IDC India.

HP led the market with a share of 29.4 percent while Lenovo was second with 17 percent share. Dell Technologies came in third with 14.6 percent as ASUS and Acer finished fourth and fifth respectively.
