2degrees to advance 5G services in NZ with Nokia

New Zealand telco 2degrees has entered into a six-year partnership with Nokia to enhance its 5G services and streamline network operations using cutting-edge cloud-native technology.

The collaboration will leverage Nokia’s containerised Cloud Native Communication Suite (CNCS) to modernise 2degrees’ network infrastructure, improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.

Deployed on Nokia’s Cloud Platform integrated with Red Hat OpenShift, CNSC will enable 2degrees to consolidate multiple IMS voice functionalities into a single cloud-native network function. This simplifies network architecture, increases automation and minimises manual intervention.

“This provides us with a much-simplified Core architecture that enables new monetisation and innovation pathways to enhance the subscriber experience and further optimise how 2degrees manages its network with new automation tools,” said Stephen Kurzeja, CTIO of 2degrees.

Nokia’s solution also delivers environmental benefits by improving energy efficiency by 10 to 20 percent compared to traditional IMS Voice Core systems.

The partnership also includes the integration of Nokia’s MantaRay Network Management solution for optimised network monitoring and management.
