We all know how important good health is, especially here in Singapore where nearly half of us are dealing with at least one chronic condition. It’s pretty sobering when you think about it—things like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart problems are behind more than half the deaths in our country.
That’s where something like the Huawei Watch D2 comes in – it can help keep an eye on our health. I’ll be honest, when I first heard about it, I thought it was just another fancy smartwatch, after all, there’s just so many out there on the market. But after trying it out, I realised it’s actually more like having a health clinic on your wrist.
What struck me right away was how comfortable it is. You know how some wearables feel chunky and annoying after a few hours? This one’s different. The strap breathes well—and this is including the extra layer that helps with blood pressure monitoring—so even during Singapore’s warm weather or when I’m working, I barely noticed I was wearing it. My regular smartwatch is an Apple Watch S6 44mm, and I feel that the weight and overall feel are pretty similar.

The coolest feature has to be the ambulatory blood pressure monitoring – something that’s not readily included in other smart watches on the market (including my Apple watch). You can actually schedule regular check-ins, and the watch will gently nudge you when it’s time. What I really appreciated was how it guides you through the process—reminding you how to position your wrist for the best reading. And the fact that it allows for tracking even when you’re asleep is pretty neat. Plus, my blood pressure reading from the watch was pretty similar to my actual machine.

But it doesn’t stop there. This watch also tracks your blood oxygen, monitors your heart rate, and can even check your skin temperature. It’s like having a health check-up available 24/7.

And yes, it still does all the regular smartwatch stuff—messages, emails, reminders—so you’re not sacrificing connectivity for health features. Have I mentioned that there’s a flashlight app (screen brightness remains on at the colour of your choice)?
Here’s why this matters for us: one in four people in Singapore over 40 has a chronic condition, with high blood pressure leading the pack. Catching these issues early and monitoring them consistently can literally save lives.
If you’re thinking of taking health monitoring more seriously, this Huawei Watch D2 is pretty worth considering. I saw an Instagram reel the other day that really hit home—it compared how we used to obsess over keeping our Tamagotchis alive to how smartwatches now help us keep ourselves alive. It’s a pretty brilliant parallel when you think about it. We were so dedicated to those little digital pets, checking on them constantly, making sure they were fed and healthy. Now we have the chance to show that same care and attention to our own bodies, except this time it actually matters.
