Ant Group launches AI healthcare app in China

Ant Group has launched the AQ AI-powered healthcare app to help users in China manage their daily health needs.

The app offers more than 100 AI-driven services, including doctor recommendations, medical report analysis and personalised medical advice.

Users can access digital services from more than 5,000 hospitals and nearly one million doctors across China.

The launch comes as China faces a demographic shift, with projections indicating that by 2035, over 400 million people — more than 30 percent of the country’s population — will be aged 60 or older. This increasing aging population is expected to drive a sharp rise in healthcare demand.

“Ant Group hopes that through AQ, it can provide everyone with a trusted healthcare manager, advancing inclusive healthcare and bringing every Chinese citizen one step closer to a healthier life,” said Cyril Han, CEO of Ant Group.

Since the company first introduced online hospital appointment services through Alipay in 2014, it has played a key role in supporting the digital transformation of China’s healthcare system.

AQ is powered by Ant Group’s Healthcare Large Model, which leverages more than a decade of expertise in the healthcare sector. It also priorities user privacy and security by utilising Ant Group’s technologies to deliver a safe experience.

Beyond the consumer app, Ant Group has been integrating its healthcare AI models into hospitals and medical institutions. In March 2025, it partnered with IT industry leaders to deploy its large model in all-in-one machines for healthcare to allow hospitals to use AI on-premises for optimised operations and improved patient services.

The company has also developed AI agents such as Angel, which has served more than 1,000 medical facilities and handled more than 50 million user interactions, and Yibaoer, an AI assistant for medical insurance inquiries.

Ant Group’s healthcare initiatives extend to supporting doctors with AI-assisted diagnosis, medical record management and patient education, following the acquisition of leading online consultation platform Haodf in January 2025.

It is also working with nearly 200 prominent doctors to develop AI Doctor Agents that provide patients with credible, authoritative advice to increase access to expert healthcare even in underserved areas.
