Tencent Cloud has teamed up with Tokyo-based entertainment production and digital fashion studio forGIFT to introduce AI virtual fitting solutions into Japan’s fashion business and connect back-end production with a front-end retail experience through a seamless digital-first workflow.
Founded in 2017, forGIFT has contributed to leading fashion and lifestyle brands’ projects, such as X-girl, DAZN and Anker, reducing apparel sampling costs by around 20 percent and creating an immersive experience in the metaverse.
The growing preservation of image assets for e-commerce led forGIFT to work with Tencent Cloud on a solution that enables outfit changes in 10 seconds with API integration into shopping carts and online storefront interoperability across consumer-facing systems. It also explored how such technology could be used in its creative planning proposals and find new possibilities for engaging clients in solution design.
The company integrated Tencent Cloud’s ChangeClothes Virtual Try-On API and Portrait-Segmentation SDK portrait segmentation and image generation technologies into its in-house developed sture 3DCG fashion sampling pipeline.
As a result, digital sample creation at high speed goes hand in hand with real-time hyper-personalised virtual fitting experiences that drastically reduce time, costs and environmental impact in traditionally laborious sampling workflows.
Tencent Cloud low-latency infrastructure and Tencent Real-Time Communication SDKs bring an interactive shop-along styling session and influencer livestreams with under 300ms of delay to offer today’s digital shoppers an immersive, real-time try-on experience.
The innovations cater to explosive demand in line with Japan’s fashion e-commerce, made-to-order apparel, and metaverse markets — all growing in double digits.
“Together, we are delivering a locally hosted, turn-key solution that helps fashion brands reduce sampling lead times and cost, lower their environmental impact, and engage consumers through immersive, real-time virtual interaction,” said Hanson Liu, Head of Tencent Cloud Japan.
“By working closely with Tencent Cloud, we have been able to push the boundaries of digital sampling and consumer engagement,” said Takafumi Shirai, President of forGIFT.
The joint solution is currently being introduced to both independent fashion labels and major fashion houses throughout Japan, with wider deployments scheduled for 2025.
By 2026, forGIFT plans to expand its comprehensive virtual try-on service to serve at least 50 Japanese fashion brands with the aim of lowering sample production costs and minimising carbon emissions across the industry.
