Proofpoint has completed its US$1.8 billion acquisition of Hornetsecurity that expands its reach among managed service providers (MSPs) and small to medium businesses (SMBs) with an AI-powered Microsoft 365 security portfolio.
Hornetsecurity has a pan-European footprint with more than 125,000 customers served through over 12,000 MSPs and channel partners. This gives Proofpoint an immediate boost in scale across the SMB segment.
Its 365 Total Protection flagship cloud security platform for Microsoft 365 integrates email security, backup, compliance, security awareness training, and access control in a single, multi-tenant console for MSPs.
“Together, we will extend our human and agent-centric security leadership to safeguard people, AI agents, and data, while expanding our reach to SMBs and MSPs with Hornetsecurity’s proven, scalable platform,” said Sumit Dhawan (top), CEO of Proofpoint.
Hornetsecurity will operate as a dedicated global business unit within Proofpoint, with founder and CEO Daniel Hofmann stepping into the role of Executive Vice President and General Manager.
“Building on our time-tested and well-established channel-centric approach, our combined capabilities, shared threat intelligence, and aligned vision will drive a new level of innovation and value for our partners and customers globally,” said Hofmann.
His existing executive team will remain in place to drive product innovation, go-to-market strategy and partner success on the MSP Platform, while tapping Proofpoint’s global resources and threat intelligence.
