HyperX Cloud III S headset and Pulsefire Fuse mouse reviews: Game on

By Edward Lim

For gamers, having the right gear makes for a world of difference. The headset and mouse are two essential peripherals that can greatly enhance the gaming experience.

We were blessed to be able to check out two HyperX gaming devices — the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset and the HyperX Pulsefire Fuse Wireless mouse.

The HyperX brand began as a high-performance memory division under Kingston Technology in 2002. It rapidly expanding its portfolio to include SSDs, USB drives and a full range of gaming peripherals such as headsets, mice and keyboards.

In 2022, HP acquired HyperX that lets the brand continue innovating under its own name while leveraging HP’s global reach.

HyperX Cloud III S Wireless: Comfortable playtime

The HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset is HyperX’s flagship gaming headset that builds on the strengths of the Cloud III with upgrades in connectivity, battery life, and versatility.

  • Plush comfort: Its lightweight over-ear, circumaural design with plush memory foam padding in both the headband and ear cups makes it so comfortable to wear though it can get a tad hot if worn too long.
  • Dual wireless connectivity: Pick from either 2.4GHz (via USB-C dongle) and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. Both are easy to set up.
  • Battery life: Using USB C charging, the battery lasts for up to 120 hours on 2.4GHz and up to 200 hours on Bluetooth mode. That’s good enough for days of gaming or entertainment.
  • Immersive sound: Sound is immersive and detailed, with strong spatial positioning for gaming. The headset excels at voice separation and environmental effects, making it suitable for both competitive and narrative-driven games.
  • Detachable boom mike: Simply plug in the 10mm unidirectional boom mike for gaming and video/audio calls. The detachability makes the headset ideal to use when travelling without looking out of place.

My personal preference would be for the headset to have noise-cancelling feature so that ambient noise can be blocked out.

Having said that, the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset is perfect for what it is designed for. It excels in comfort, battery life and immersive sound. Its dual wireless connectivity and mike make it versatile for both gaming and daily use. Overall, it’s best suited for gamers who value convenience, long battery life and in-game audio.

HyperX Pulsefire Fuse Wireless: Responsive gaming

The HyperX Pulsefire Fuse Wireless mouse is lightweight, sports an ambidextrous design with textured microline grip panels, and as with most gaming mice, comes in black.

  • Dual wireless connectivity: Similar to the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless heaadset, the mouse offers both 2.4GHz wireless (via USB dongle) and Bluetooth connectivity for versatile use across PCs, consoles and mobile devices. The 1,000Hz polling rate ensures minimal lag, and the mouse moves smoothly across surfaces.
  • Ambidextrous design: Weighing just 75g (including battery), its symmetrical, ambidextrous shape with textured microline grip panels makes it comfortable for extended gaming sessions using either hand. I love the buttons’ tractile feel and light yet firm touch that is highly reponsive.
  • Long battery life: The single AAA battery is good for up to 85 hours of continuous use, more than enough for extended playtime without battery change.

However, it’s the AAA battery that leaves me longing for that one more feature. I would prefer USB C charging rather than having to change the AAA battery, which can be a little convenient when travelling.

All things being equal, the HyperX Pulsefire Fuse Wireless mouse is great for gamers, especially left-handed ones who may find other mice not southpaw-friendly. It is also light and responsive, making it suitable for both gaming and general use.
