Singapore and Taiwan among world’s Top 10 in IT use

Singapore maintained its second position while Taiwan inched into the final spot in the Top 10 list of the 12th edition of The Global Information Technology Report by the World Economic Forum.

The report’s Networked Readiness Index (NRI) measures the capacity of 144 economies to leverage infocommunications technology (ICT) for growth and well-being.

Finland topped the list by switching place with Sweden, which slid to third.

NVIDIA to hold global World of Tanks tournament

World of TanksNVIDIA is organising the first ever GeForce eSports World of Tanks Open Tournament, where combatants will compete to win NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600-series graphics cards and a shot at a US$100,000 total prize pool awarded at a grand finals. Pre-registration is now open with team and player registration open starting March 28 for two weeks.

World of Tanks is a team-based, massively multi-player online game dedicated to armoured warfare in the mid-20th century. With more than 55 million registered users worldwide, World of Tanks is a fast-paced PC shooter game with in-depth weaponry, economics and robust eSports tools such as spectator mode and replay file support. In January, the game set a new Guinness World Record for the most players online simultaneously when the Russian MMO server reached 190,541 players.

Teams will compete in five regions – China, APAC, the Americas, Europe, and Russia. In APAC, country tournaments will be held among teams in Australia, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. Country finals will be held end June while the APAC regional finals will take place in July.  MSI is the hardware and prize sponsor for the Australia, Singapore and Taiwan gaming tournaments.

“What this means is that customers who are going into e-commerce can take our suite of solutions as well as leverage the strengths of our partners such as SingPost for key parts of their operations such as warehousing, delivery and customer clearance,” Burghardt Groeber, Vice President for Asia, hybris told Entelechy Asia in an exclusive interview.

According to him, Southeast Asia is interesting as there are different countries with different laws, customs, geographical size and reach, languages, currencies and taxes.

Nanyang Technological University becomes Southeast Asia’s first CUDA Teaching Center

CUDA Teaching CenterNVIDIA has appointed Nanyang Technological University as the first Southeast Asia CUDA Teaching Center (CTC).

The CUDA Teaching Center Program is designed to support and encourage teaching establishments to include GPU Computing using CUDA C/C++ as part of their course offerings.

Under the program, NVIDIA will donate CUDA enabled GPUs to be installed in teaching lab computers at NTU’s School of Computer Engineering. Students and other members of the university community will have direct access to CUDA enabled systems for hands-on experience of CUDA C/C++ development, debugging and experimentation.
