Singapore’s National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) has launched the ScamShield app that blocks scam SMS and calls.
Currently available only on iOS, the app checks an incoming call against a list maintained by the Singapore Police Force and block numbers that have been used for illegal purposes.
Developed by NCPC and Open Government Products, the app uses artificial intelligence scans for keywords typically found in spam messages. Identified scam messages are junked while calls are automatically blocked.
Even though Singapore has a Do Not Call (DNC) Registry in place, scammers are still finding ways to reach, irritate and trick mobile phone subscribers.
This app provides a semblance of relief for Singapore mobile phone users who are increasingly receiving unwanted calls and messages.
