The downward trend continues for worldwide PC shipment with a 1.4 percent drop in Q1, making it the 14th consecutive quarter of decline, according to Gartner.

In APAC, PC shipment totalled 21.9 million units in Q1, a 3.9 percent decline from the corresponding quarter of 2017.

Driving this slide was China which showed no significant sign of strong upgrading to the special version of Windows 10 from Chinese government institutions and where consumer demand was still weak with most buyers having taken advantage of aggressive promotions offered in Q4.

“The major contributor to the decline came from China, where unit shipments declined 5.7 percent year over year. This was driven by China’s business market, where some state-owned and large enterprises postponed new purchases or upgrades, awaiting new policies and officials’ reassignments after the session of the National People’s Congress in early March,” said Mikako Kitagawa, Principal Analyst of Gartner.
