Equinix will build a new data centre called KL2 in Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur.
As the fourth Equinix facility in Malaysia, KL2 will be located less than a kilometre from the KL1 site. It will span more than 2,200 cabinets with a total investment exceeding US$190 million.
The purpose-built facility will feature advanced liquid cooling for high-density AI and high-performance computing workloads. It is targeting 100 percent renewable energy coverage from day one in line with the company’s 2030 sustainability goals.
KL2 strengthens Kuala Lumpur’s role as an interconnected Asean hub, integrating with Equinix Fabric for low-latency connections across Malaysia, Johor and Singapore.
The facility supports hyperscalers, digital natives and multinationals deploying distributed AI and hybrid multi-cloud setups, fueled by Malaysia’s National AI Office initiatives.
“By providing AI-ready infrastructure in Kuala Lumpur and Johor responsibly, we are directly supporting national agendas to advance the country’s AI ambitions. KL2 will not only enable businesses to process data closer to the source and deploy Distributed AI with agility, but it will also drive high-value job creation and build long-term economic resilience for the nation,” said Cheam Tat Inn, Managing Director of Malaysia at Equinix.
