Equinix unveils managed private cloud service for AI supercomputing

Equinix has introduced a fully managed private cloud service that lets enterprises seamlessly acquire and oversee their own NVIDIA DGX AI supercomputing infrastructure for the development and operation of bespoke generative AI (GenAI) models.

Available for immediate deployment, this service encompasses NVIDIA DGX systems, NVIDIA networking and the robust NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform.

Equinix takes charge of the installation and operation of each customer’s privately-owned NVIDIA infrastructure, offering deployment services on their behalf in strategically positioned International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers worldwide.

“To harness the incredible potential of generative AI, enterprises need adaptable, scalable hybrid infrastructure in their local markets to bring AI supercomputing to their data. Our new service provides customers a fast and cost-effective way to adopt advanced AI infrastructure that’s operated and managed by experts globally,” said Charles Meyers, President and CEO of Equinix.

“Generative AI is transforming every industry. Now, enterprises can own NVIDIA AI supercomputing and software, paired with the operational efficiency of Equinix management, in hundreds of data centres worldwide,” said Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA.

The service enables enterprises to scale their infrastructure operations, achieving the necessary AI performance levels for developing and running extensive models.

Early adopters in biopharma, financial services, software, automotive, and retail are leveraging the service to establish AI Centres of Excellence, supporting a wide range of use cases, including accelerating drug development, creating AI co-pilots for customer service agents, and building virtual productivity assistants.

Equinix’s fully managed NVIDIA AI supercomputing service allows enterprises to operate their AI infrastructure in close proximity to their data. With high-speed private network access to global network service providers, it facilitates quick GenAI information retrieval across corporate wide area networks. It also offers private, high-bandwidth interconnections to cloud services and enterprise service providers, ensuring efficient handling of AI workloads while meeting stringent data security and compliance requirements.

Customers using the service gain easy access to the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, streamlining the development and deployment of production-grade AI applications, including GenAI. The software comprises pretrained models, optimized frameworks, and accelerated data science software libraries, such as the NVIDIA NeMo framework for building Large Language Models (LLMs), NVIDIA Rapids for data science, NVIDIA Clara for healthcare, and NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM for optimising the performance of large language models.

The comprehensive solution comes with enterprise-grade support and security, leveraging Equinix’s IBX data centre professionals to assist customers in rapidly building and deploying their custom AI models. Access to NVIDIA AI experts further enhances the support ecosystem for organisations venturing into GenAI.
